The KM5100 TableTop Pulse Oximeter is a noninvasive medical device used to measure and monitor a patients blood oxygen saturation SpO and pulse rate continuously or intermittently It is designed for use in hospitals clinics and home settings particularly for patients with respiratory or cardiac conditions
Working Principle
The pulse oximeter operates using photoplethysmography PPG to measure oxygen saturation and pulse rate
Steps in Operation
Light Emission
The device uses a sensor probe containing lightemitting diodes LEDs that emit red 660 nm and infrared 940 nm light
Light Absorption
The light passes through the patients tissue eg finger earlobe and is absorbed differently by oxygenated hemoglobin HbO and deoxygenated hemoglobin Hb
Signal Detection
A photodetector measures the intensity of light transmitted or reflected through the tissue
SpO and Pulse Rate Calculation
The device processes the data to calculate the oxygen saturation level SpO and pulse rate displaying the results on the screen
Key Features of the KM5100 TableTop Pulse Oximeter
Large Display Screen
Highresolution display for clear visualization of SpO pulse rate and plethysmographic waveform
Continuous Monitoring
Provides realtime monitoring for critically ill patients with adjustable alarm settings for SpO and pulse rate thresholds
MultiPatient Use
Suitable for adult pediatric and neonatal patients with interchangeable probes
Alarms and Alerts
Audiovisual alarms for low SpO levels abnormal pulse rates or disconnection of the probe
Data Storage
Capable of storing patient data for trend analysis and review
Battery Backup
Includes a builtin rechargeable battery for uninterrupted use during power outages or transport
Compact Design
A tabletop form factor ensures easy placement and portability within medical facilities
Applications
Hospital Settings
Continuous monitoring in ICUs emergency rooms and operating theaters
Chronic Respiratory Diseases
Managing conditions like COPD asthma or pulmonary fibrosis
PostSurgical Care
Monitoring oxygen levels during recovery after surgeries involving anesthesia
Sleep Studies
Assists in detecting sleep apnea by monitoring oxygen desaturation during sleep
Neonatal and Pediatric Care
Suitable for sensitive monitoring of infants and children
Home Care
For patients requiring longterm oxygen therapy or those with chronic conditions
Advantages
Accurate and Reliable Provides precise readings of SpO and pulse rate
UserFriendly Interface Simple controls and clear display for ease of use
